Keeping It Local
Labor Day is the traditional last fling of summer.  Picnics, NASCAR and family outdoor fun are Labor Day staples.  You don’t have to travel this holiday weekend.  You can do it all, hometown style, right here in the SCV.  Fire-up the grill because there’s still time to organize that American standard:  the barbeque. Whether you’re gathering the extended family or bringing the neighbors together, a BBQ and cold drinks means good times for everyone.  But, if you find you need more room for your Labor Day gathering, maybe it’s time to hit one of our many parks.

Parks
Santa Clarita has 20 parks with a variety of amenities, including children’s play areas, grass areas for games and picnic tables.  For the sports lovers, many of our parks have basketball courts, pools and baseball diamonds.  Biking and walking trails crisscross our parks and valley.  Click here for a list of parks and what they have to offer.

Woodland Parks
If you’ve heard or read reports from Wendy Langhans on KHTS or on-line at hometownstation.com , you know that Santa Clarita has many woodland areas to enjoy.  Click here for information on Santa Clarita Woodland Parks.

Traffic
If you are going out-of-town, try to get an early start.  Also, a little patience will help everyone’s mood, and maybe the trip won’t seem so long.  Don’t forget to consult the KHTS on-line traffic.

CHP DUI
There will be a local DUI checkpoint beginning at approximately 8:30pm and ending at approximately 2:30am on Saturday.  The CHP statewide will be on high alert this holiday weekend, beginning Friday at 6pm and continuing through 11:59pm Monday.

Consumers Furniture
If you're staying in town drop by Consumer Furniture's Labor Day Tent Sale.  On Saturday from 1-4pm KHTS' Barry McKeever will be on hand helping Consumers Furniture celebrate.  Barry will be giving out prizes and there will be free hot dogs.  For the sale you can get free local delivery or free sales tax and in many cases same day delivery.  Consumers Furniture on Golden Triangle at Golden Valley, a block from Home Depot and down the block from Sam's Club - look for the big white tents.

KHTS wishes everyone a fun-filled and safe Labor Day!

Deputy Cameron Glover Golf Memorial Open
Help support the Glover Family by entering the Day of Golf Memorial Open on Monday at the Valencia Country Club.  Deputy Sheriff Cameron Glover was assigned to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.  He died in an off-duty traffic collision on April 28, 2010.  The day of golf is in his honor.  Tee off time is 8:30am.  Come play or sponsor a green or be a cart sponsor.  Glover left his high school sweetheart-turned-wife, Jennifer who is seven months pregnant with their first child.  Jennifer was left with minimal benefits since the accident was considered off-duty.  You can also show support by sending a donation to First Bank on McBean Parkway in Valencia.  Check should be made payable to Jennifer Glover with a memo note “Deputy Glover Memorial Fund”.  All money raised will go to Jennifer and their first child.

SCV Fourth of July Parade
The annual SCV Fourth of July parade is at the heart of Santa Clarita’s patriotic hometown spirit.  With the theme “Celebrating America’s Independence: Movietown USA”, you’ll experience Santa Clarita’s relationship with Hollywood.  The entries for the parade bring together the many elements of the SCV community.  You’ll see floats and marchers from youth organizations, first responders, military and their support groups, and local politicians and leaders.  Cheer on KHTS’ own morning man and Parade Division Marshal, Brandon Gibson.  The KHTS 1948 Mack Fire Truck driven by Jason Endicott is
always a parade favorite. The parade starts promptly at 9am at the corner of 5th and Main in Old Town Newhall.
Click here for a full story on the parade by KHTS News Director, Carol Rock.  The story includes street closures, parade route, a full list of parade entries, impact of the parade on OLPH and parade-watcher rules.

SCV Fourth of July Fireworks Show

The City of Santa Clarita puts on a free Fourth of July Fireworks Show that dazzles.  But the show wouldn’t be complete without the participation of KHTS.  KHTS AM-1220 will add to your fireworks enjoyment by broadcasting patriotic music choreographed to the fireworks display.  The show at the Westfield Valencia mall starts at 9pm.
